Radial is Astera's life science division, focused on rethinking science at a systems level. We design, fund, and operate programs that tackle foundational scientific problems while simultaneously testing better ways to do science.
Science is stuck in a legacy loop, and it’s time for an upgrade. We’re hitting a massive inflection point where AI isn't just acting as a partner in discovery, it’s exposing the cracks in our outdated research systems. We have the tools to rewrite the playbook, but the future doesn't build itself. This is why Astera is intensifying our commitment by launching Radial.
We are taking a full-stack approach where we fit structure to problem: we build in-house, partner with startups and national labs, make investments in for-profit companies, fund external teams, and support individuals through Astera's residency program.
Examples of our work
- The DiffUSE Project aims to unlock our understanding of protein dynamics at a scale never before possible. We are experimenting on the experimental methods, computational models, data standards, and infrastructure required to capture and interpret molecular motion across the proteome. - The Stacks is a new, open-access, digital platform designed to radically experiment with how scientific, technical, and intellectual work is shared and discovered.
- OpenADMET is a partnership with industry to produce open, high-quality datasets characterizing small molecule properties that the broader field can train on for real-world utility.
